We'd rather keep one codebase, as it saves much work when fixing bugs or doing other changes.

If by 'owning' you mean bundling, that's rather not possible, because a
multitude of packages depend on it, as stated above.

We'll gladly take the co-maintainer status in Fedora, no problem.
