Indonesia bans NZ beef
5:00AM Saturday July 12, 2008
Agricultural officials in Indonesia have temporarily banned beef imports from
New Zealand, a $100 million trade, due to halal certification issues.
The ban took effect on Monday. Indonesia, the world's most populous Muslim
nation, requires imported beef products to be certified as meeting Islamic
halal standards, with halal labels in both English and Indonesian.
