You can get it here. The good thing about ape is that it compresses a tiny bit smaller than flac and is still lossless. The bad thing about ape is that unlike flac it leaves our Mac using friends out in the cold. It’s primarily a Windows only format. There have been some projects to get it to work with OS X but user reports haven’t been good. In fact it just plain doesn’t work for them. Most online trading communities have banned it until the Mac problem is resolved.

Okay, so we have something new to contend with...

Where does one find a free download of this APE shit? (no pun intended - come to think of it, that's pretty funny, so yeah pun intended) I assume it's out there for free somewhere?

You should fill us in on this John. I may be a day or two slow, but I'm not living under a rock and I have never heard of this format until just now...

Tell us what's up wi'dat!

You convert APE Files In to WAV Files and burn them

Frank Zappa is widely believed to have created the GTOs as an experiment, like a joke band. They played live with  the Mothers of Invention, and

some famous muso- style musicians played backing music for them.

GTO stood for lots of things, including: Girls Together Outrageously,
GirlsTogether Occasionally, Girls Together Only, and Girls Together Often.

They didn't play their own instruments, they took a lot of drugs and they
had a lot of sex. They were girl freaks who liked the company of other girl freaks.
They knew Tiny Tim. Some of them were ex-juvenile delinquents. Some of them were street kids.

Miss Christine OD/d and died at the Modern Lovers' house in Cohasset, Massachusetts in 1972.

Their only album is 'Permanent Damage,' released in 1969, and later
     reissued in 1989.
