If you really insist, there is an 'unpolished' port of u-boot for
Zaurus clamshells.

A working LZMA compression for the kernel gives almost 400KiB for NET.
I'm pretty sure we can pack all necessary stuff  in the kexecboot-kernel.

If you want to experience with Angel bootloader, there is an old post
about having a single partition:
