It is my opinion, not as the moderator of this group, but as the list
owner of another Yahoo group (I don't moderate messages), that if the
discussion and discuss-ees (I know, don't think that's really a word)
have the basic theme of the Yahoo group at heart - if the intention to
bring the conversation to the theme of the group is there (in this
group's case, Zen and how to live our lives in a Zen-ish? fashion), then
go for it (no bashing and no slander). As list owner, I watch the
conversation and if it is going too far off the mark, then I try to pull
it back. I'm not always successful, so if I or the discuss-ees can't
get it back on track I pipe in and say it's over. My plan is that then
if someone doesn't stop, then I'll remove them, but thankfully, I
haven't had to do that.

Anyway, I hope you don't throw the baby out with the bath water. I urge
you to post; we all express ourselves differently and we can learn a lot
from each other.

Kathy

Subject: [Zen] Off Topic Discussions and Participants

As someone who took part in the upset over the Danish cartoons, I
felt I was trying to bring some sense of Zen to the discusssion --
name calling is unproductive in seeking to solve what one sees as a
problem. My responses were evidently judged to be offensive and the
whole episode has been deleted, so I don't post in an attempt to raise
it again. Since I was part of such an upset, it seemed best to me not
to post. I haven't gone away in anger. I have withdrawn because I
was part of an upset the moderator wished to end.
We all bring our own life experience to the study of Zen, seeking a
different and better path, while still bearing the burdens -- real and
psychological -- of who we are and where we've been. Sometimes it is
hard to look beyond our situation and our experience. Again, I
apologize to all for any comments I made that caused offense to be
taken.

KJJ
