Al, >From a lawyer perspective, it’s like pro se.
Or in the words of a famous Latin American public servant: ‘We don’t need no stinking badges!” …Bill! From: Zen_Forum@yahoogroups.com [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Jue Miao Jing Ming - ???? Most transmit with formalities only. Sitting Chan is now often just a mental balancing act. The spiritual power of Chan disappeared from too many schools and practices. True teachers are hard to find in this "Dark Ages" of Buddhism. An enlightened teacher teaches direct and absolute Dharma. What does that mean? This Dharma is the universal Dharma whether spoken or none spoken, whether is called Dharma or not. It is everywhere in our lives and at every moment. It is always there. The challenge is really in the recipient. In order to receive it, we have to sync to it without any attitude whatsoever. "See" through all forms to its essence, its originality, its cause and cause of causes. No matter what attitude, joke like yours, comparison, categorization, are all fruits of our active mind. They are all practices for the conscious domain, which Chan is not. Chan exists only in the spiritual domain. Just quiet our mind. We could then be connected with the Universal life force and wisdom, or Chan, or Zen, or God, or Ala, or whatever. It is not hard, just practice.
