Mel;

Go for the fun of it! .  Make noise with it!.    When I first came to Edinburgh
I experienced such a melancholy  by the cold and grey weather that I bought to
myself an Spanish Classic guitar and learnt all by myself reading the basis for
music guitar and playing the guitar.  My first two years in Edinburhg I used to
spend a great deal of of my spare time making noise with the guitar.
Hahaha...!.

It is possible that the early music was associated with The Catholic Church
Institution due to it's power and also very educated people.  For instance in
Spain in the 13rd century there were two different currents of literature:  One
was orale and it was trasnmited by the juglar and the other one first written
in paper was "The Mester of Clerecia"   created by the Clergy and with regular
verses called "Cuaderna Via".  The topics are also more variated (history,
novel, religious...) and the Authors are much more very well educated. Still
these days Catholic Schools are highly reputable in Europe.  Saying this it
won't be difficult to understand that in Western Culture the Catholic Church
had a most important role over a best education at all levels.

...*smiles/laughter*...It sometimes does have its draw-backs..

Speaking of music lately, I've been getting myself involved in what's called
Early Music..along the lines of Europe's Feudal, Medieval, and Renaissance
music, and I attended my first concert a few weeks ago. This is because I'm
currently learning to play the recorder. Yes, I
know...*sighs/laughter*....parents get terrified of this simple plastic
instrument when any of the children get hold of it. Well, I've always wanted to
learn to play early music on this instrument, especially after having
watched the film ELIZABETH(1998, Cate Blanchett, Geoffrey Rush)

However, with such interests as the above, I sometimes wonder, because most of
such early music were associated with the church and the power that was the
Vatican. Before going back to Zen, I have tried twice to return voluntarily to
the Christian fold, and the emotions involved as well as other things/issues
just ended up tampering with my rather precarious blood pressure and other
health conditions. A part of me says that I should stick to only the Asian
variety of Zen or Buddhist-like music, but the fact is...I love early music. I
don't know...*smiles*...I just love it!

I've just been listening to the work SHEPHERD's DANCE(Tielman Susato, 1510-1570
AD) on YouTube, and it has that soothing, calming effect..*grin*...whoever said
that such calm, soothing music can only come from the Far East? And it was
played with recorders ONLY...how about that?
