Happiness of sorts had been mentioned along the current discussions. But,
happiness is relative. What makes one happy? For some, it is quite an exact
'science', or even religion. Some sources of happiness (apparently) that I've
come across were....
- the usual...sex, drugs, and rock n' roll...and LOTS OF EACH
- fast cars and difficult women
- an ambitious rise in the corporate ladder that's faster than a speeding
bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, and able to leap tall building in a
single bound
...hmmm...
Unfortunately, and like greed, happiness as such when desired or sought
after in the above terms is limitless and not easy to control
..'Contentment is natural wealth. Luxury is artificial poverty'...
-Socrates
Who controls you? You, or your desires? How much will it take to make you
happy? And where does it end? Are you not happy with what you've already got?
Do you know the meaning of contentment?
..'In dwelling, live close to the ground. In thinking, keep to the simple'..
-TaoTeChing
..Big houses, big cars, big gardens, big bank accounts, big expenditures, more
big dreams....BIG everything! What makes one happy? How much?
..'I believe in the forest, and in the meadow, and in the night in which the
corn grows'...
-Henry David Thoreau
In the meantime, we miss those more important treasures that are closer and of
much more value to us
..'Everyday we are engaged in a miracle which we don't even recognize: a blue
sky, white clouds, green leaves, the black curious eyes of a child - our own
two eyes. All is a miracle'....
-Thich Nhat Hanh
