Dear All, My I share the following about compassion which was discussed extensively in this forum recently?
Compassion is our nature, which is embedded in everyone of us. It is one of the many instincts, or self nature, or Buddha nature, such as oneness, equality and awareness, while they are inseparable. It is always there. Often it is clouded by our ego and does not shine through. Some lineage utilizes compassion as a qualifier to remind their practitioners to be kind. Then in this case compassion becomes a qualifier or a conditions, or a label. In this mindset, we often become confused, when our ego begins to judge whether a particular act or person qualifies or not. Just as we were driven by our seventh and eighth consciousness, sadists, rapist, violent criminals are no different. Very few of can control or manage these impulses from within. They are like a time bomb. Giving is the first Act of Perfection. It is just giving. If we think, "when to give, how to give, whether he deserves our giving, .... " Then our ego is clouding our heart. Thus practicing giving, though may appear to help others, in my witness, it help us more to smash our ego - our tiny self-serving notions. I do not know whether zen or Zen emphasizes the Bodhisattva Way. Execute the Six Perfections is highly recommended to further witness our journey. Only then, we'll realize how cloudy we are within. BTW, our Taiwan lineage recently setup a new foundation and an English website. http://www.buddhachan.org/en/ Do join our retreat in Santa Cruz end of July. http://chan-meditation.org/ Where you will meet Juemiao Miaoming, an American recipient of Buddha Heart Imprint, this is his blog upon receiving heart-to-heart transmission from our Chan Master. http://heartchan.org/en/home/item/66-heart-to-heart-transmission.html Thank you for your attention, JMJM Head Teacher USA Chan Center ------------------------------------ Current Book Discussion: any Zen book that you recently have read or are reading!
