Thanks, Bill, for your *very* kindly reminder to the Group of the group's
mission. Much appreciated.

That mission-statement and masthead at the Group's web-page is important: it's
the first thing that newcomers see.

When newcomers join, I think they expect to see reflected in the postings and
doings of the group the same emphases that the masthead or mission-statement
"advertizes", and promises.

I understand that there are 405 Members of Zen Forum. That is HUGE. And
thanks and congratulations to the co-Moderators for making it so!

I think it's therefore hugely important, since the Group's doings are echoed to
so MANY bodhisattvas, for Members to use "thoughtful" discipline in crafting
their posts. "Remember the Mission-Statement", I'd say. Remember that the
post will appear in 405 households. Remember the focus of this UNIQUE, group,
where people go as to a watering-hole: looking or seeking: or, seeking to share.

I'd say try to make posts useful to 405 people, not to just one or two, even if
you are directing a reply or question to just one or two.

I'm happy to be back to Groups, and had abandoned them ten years ago because of
the tendency of many groups to become billboards for "any" kind of postings
which had no connection with the groups's mission-statement or title:
weight-loss diets, travel-offers, body-part-enlargement offers, even
pornography, hidden behind links posted with no commentary or introduction.

It's my mission in life to scold Buddhas and Patriarchs, but not Bodhisattvas.

Yet, being a Member myself, I also urge all Bodhisattvas here at the Zen Forum
to use discipline in posting, ...for us All. I don't want to go away again for
another decade (I think I may be running out of decades, in any case).

I'm just one ordinary Member, about 1/4 of one-percent of you All, but my hope
is strong that others may agree:

Keep it concentrated and on-topic, PLEASE, and remember that posts survive here
forever. All posts back to Day-One are available online, and you can use
Search, and Sort by Thread, etc. I think it's therefore doubly, triply,
important to keep the Group "RECORD" very concentratedly on-topic, and not to
dilute it!

Fightin'-words, I know, so let's step outside to continue this conversation,
and let the regular business of the Group continue, on-track and on-mission.
;-)

Thanks, all around! from a Member,
