Bill, I'm not sure what you question really is. If you want to POST something it's in Text. There is an option at the top of the panel to use Rich-Text, but otherwise it's just plain old Text. In Rich-Text you can add URL's, images and stuff like that. You can also email a post and can use whatever format you want but it will be posted as Text so be careful with formats like HTML.
You can RECEIVE posts by either logging into the site or having them sent to you via email. Yahoo! probably has a CHAT function that uses Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) but no one I know of uses it here. I changed your Membership to allow you to post without screening, so you're good to go! Post Away!!!! And...Welcome to Fight Club.
