Merle,

They leave their itchy mini-hickeys indiscriminately.  Opportunists, they are.  
The she-animal cannot deposit a load of fertile eggs in stagnant water unless 
she first has a blood-meal.

Yet, the mozzies or skeeters  are just carrying out their genetic charge -- I 
don't know if it is a "mission" -- but, just following their nose/proboscis, 
based on primal promptings.

Are they covered by the first Buddhist Precept, that of Not Killing?  I think 
that you must be the judge (granted, they can and do spread disease).
