I don't know if they stay cleaner that way, or get dirtier.

Then again, there's dirt, and there's "dirt".  Either way seems a losing 
proposition; but, one way is traditional.

I note in passing that the expression "It will all come out in the wash" shows 
no immediate appreciation for what that will happen to the water, which was 
once clean.

It's not that we're damned if we do or damned if we don't, it's just that 
everything is more connected than we usually remember when we indulge in 
separating things.  Separation is only half the truth.

As long as we can tell whether the knickers are outside or inside, though, 
we'll probably set them right, and we'll probably be within the Law.
