dearest joe...cousin...howdi hoo...art teaching..well well..what do you mean
supplies?... start drawing first..please...and practise..draw draw and draw
till you can draw no more...concentrate on what there is to draw...and find the
medium that best serves your practise... you might prefer charcoal etc... find
out...draw from reality... put a still life in front of you and draw...you have
to learn to concentrate first...to understand the underlying structure of
things... the shapes..how the hell can you paint anything unless you understand
structure
elements are line direction shape size colour tone and texture...principles
are harmony contrast balance form rhythm
no good concentrating on the mediums..experiment with them by all means,,see
what they can or cannot do and how you feel about them..it would be good for
you to go to an art class...you have to dedicate your being to the art
she is asking you...otherwise you dabble and dabble and it just doodle
ask me any questions joe..i am here..merle

Bill!,

Maybe, I dunno: my mind is gone. I am a beginning painter, and everything
these days looks like supplies, to me. I'm kind of obsessed about it. I guess
this is how I learn. In, up to my neck. Developing a love for the supplies
and tools, and developing reflexes for them.

I wonder if Merle taught her painting students to be like this, missing meals
and walking around paint-daubed. I'm not dedicated, though, just fully
piled-into something new, something that uses everything else I've done, or got.

Someday to even-out!
