Mike,

As far as I know I'll be around.  I live in Phetchabun province which is about 
about 1/3 of the way from Bangkok to Pai.  It is considered the beginning edge 
of Issan region.

I assume you'd be flying into Bangkok.  How would you expect to get to Pai?  
Fly to Chiang Mai?  Train?  Bus?  Walk barefoot performing a full bow every 
three paces?
