Merle, Without know what kind of email system you use I can tell you this:
SPAM is filtered by two methods: sender and content. If you have a sender filter it may require you to 'approve' or 'register' senders before it will allow them through the filter. If you have a content filter you have little control over what's caught in the filter, but usually have an override to not filter emails based on sender.
