Are you sure that that is not an implement used to clean ceramic, or other,
toilets, say, in Japan? Maybe that is the kind of stick they make there?: In
USA, it is a brush, not sponge-covered.
Are we to suppose that what you show is for application to the human body?
And, do you suppose that this is from an ancient model, or design?
In any case, the handle does not appear to be bamboo.
