Merle, I wouldn't want to play down your situation, but it could well end up being nothing serious (Note the doctor said "worst case scenario"). If nothing else, it's a great opportunity/teacher to find out how well you deal with such a situation.In the unlikely event of a serious prognosis, you seem to have a very loving family to turn to and support you and although we on the forum can't be compared - you know we're right behind you if you need us.
