Dear all,
I am sometimes feeling we are very artificial, not authentic. Why we
spend so much of time in thinking, even while taking bath, eating
food, watching television, even while talking to others, our mind keep
thinking on the background. Why? Why can’t this mind coincide with the
activity of the body? This actually means we are only paying little
attention to what we do? When we will be in full attention?
Only when we do the activities which are more pleased to us, we are
fully attentive, even those are little less than full attention. Just
see what is to be attentive to the present moment.
When you write or for that matter anyone who writes alternative to my
views, I am tempting to answer back. Why this temptation? Keep
thinking what to answer or how to answer. Is it not waste of time for
me?
But it seems I subtly love this. Hence I write back. This writing
seems more important than whatever is present in front of me. My son
is asking a question, but I am not interested I just answer something,
and keep thinking about a reply for any mails which are contradictory
to my view. I am needed for my children, for my wife and for my
employer and colleagues, who are nearby me. Who are these forum
members? Why should I think for them? You first start as
entertainment, thereupon, it takes your full time, is it not nonsense?
When I cannot change myself, (my habit of continuous thinking, which
causes lots of hindrances to me on every moment, still I forcibly
think with all my energy, why?) how can I change anybody? When I am
not able to influence my near ones, how can I change unknown people?
Why would we like others to change according to our wish? Let them go
on wrong path or right path what it is got to do with me?
Why do we label certain things are right and certain things are wrong?
How do we judge all these?
Certainly I judge based on my accumulated knowledge. Similarly every
one accumulates knowledge, so everyone is judging everyone else. Based
on my accumulated knowledge I see few others are wrong and few others
are right. And similarly everyone is doing this exercise. Because of
this exercise we like some body and we hate somebody. Can we able to
not to judge others? Because this judgment makes to hate somebody; and
this hate causes all kinds of wars/fight depend on one’s capability.
I can cease to judge somebody, provided I have no accumulated
knowledge. Is it possible not to accumulate knowledge?
Knowledge accumulation takes place when we are not paying full
attention to the moment, what I mean here is we do not understand the
situation, which we pass through, because our mind is ‘thinking’ on
which we have no control. And again this thinking is the effect of
past accumulated knowledge. So what we have to do is, be fully
attentive to the present moment, whatever the present moment be,
whether pleasant or unpleasant. This attention will only solve all my
problems, so no need to prepare for future in terms of thinking.
Can you explain to me what this ‘attention’ is? Don’t refer anything,
but be attentive and tell me.
Best regards
Suresh
