Edgar, OK, if Sheng Yen's book doesn't do it for you -- and it might -- then try another Zen biography?
I just now heard about it on NPR in an interview with the still-mellifluous author. It fits this forum because it has the word "Zen" in the title, at least ...like that novel by Pirsig in the early 1970s that I never finished reading (a friend borrowed it one night when I was paused on page 75, and having to do a lot of other reading in other topics. I never got the book back and never bought another copy. Nor did I borrow one). See Tony Bennett's, LIFE IS A GIFT: THE ZEN OF BENNETT (2012).
