Chris,
I like it!
On a related note:
I like saying, "Do the best you WANT."
This way, it is not a command; it is a hope, and an actual encouragement.
No one is judging, then. One doesn't do well -- nor good -- to say, "Aw, YOU
can do better than THAT!!, Jimmie".
I'm pretty sure that Olympians in competition don't say to themselves, with
self-hypnosis techniques, "Just do the best you CAN, Pole-Vaulter!"... Nah,
Johnnie the Pole Vaulter will induce himself with the hypnotic induction, "Do
the best you WANT, Dude! The sky's no LIMIT today!"
I just hope that folks do absolutely the best they WANT to do, even if they
"CAN'T". By saying "Do the best you CAN", as I used to, I was limiting them.
To an idea.
The thing is, one never knows how well one can do, because most folks do not
know who the "YOU" is.
It's not who they THINK they are!
So, by encouraging folks to do the best they want -- even if their wanting is
fantastical -- great things often happen.
And if their wanting is at a low level, they will STILL be satisfied, when they
attain it.
Win-Win!
;-)
