Such dedicated fans they have. I was impressed, but not surprised, nor
unprepared myself!, to see folks at the first concert of theirs I attended
taking NOTES: Writing up set-lists as the songs were performed. I think the
set-lists of every concert they ever gave is probably available somewhere
online, these days. You could review those "class-notes" of the concert you
attended!, and then maybe something of the fine lecture highlights would come
back to you. I know, I know, we shouldn't count on it.
Saw them in 1979 in New York at MSG (not a kitchen Glutamate condiment, but
Madison Square Garden), only once, entirely sober, and under the influence of
nothing at all but my sweetie, and overwhelmed too by sound. We had great
seats. I recorded (!) the whole concert on my portable stereo cassette
recorder, have the tapes to this day, but haven't listened in prob. two
decades. I should dump them to mp3.
Saw Zappa, two Halloweens in a row at the Felt Forum inside the MSG during
college, maybe 1973 and 1974. I was impressed, among other things, by how he
would sit down in a chair on stage intently listening when others were soloing,
really letting the other musicians be featured. Another gone-beyond
Bodhisattva.
