All Group,
This is the week of the most intense and intensive Ch'an and Zen retreats and
sesshin all over the World. Let's wish our brothers and sisters well as they
practice, for Awakening.
Rohatsu is timed -- scheduled -- to end on the 8th day of the 12th month,
traditionally Buddha's Enlightenment day.
Every Zen practitioner's mind turns toward Rohatsu, now... Iff you've had the
opportunity to practice formally, around the calendar.
On another front: our school has several/many collections of Koans to work
from/on.
The Mumonkan, of course. Little we can say about those 49, tonight.
And the Hekiganroku, or the "To-Heck-and-Gone Roku";
The latter is The Blue Cliff Record, known in some quarters (or dimes), as
Cliff's Blues Records, if you have 33 1/3 RPM technology, as I do. ;-)
Of course, it's all different in the original Chinese. They'd say it's not
"different", but appeared FIRST, and they are correct! Of course.
Don't ask me about the original Klingon, because I'm dubious about that as can
be.
This is my first, or second year, not sitting Rohatsu Sesshin here, in some 25
years. Do some of you have experience with it, in the West, ...or in the Old
Countries? Yes?
Hoping we all awaken, this week, and forevermore.
Along with our original teacher, Shakyamuni Buddha, who put us on this, our
path.
Hail! All hard-working Rohatsu practitioners! All our hopes.
--Joe
