google churchill...he was no saint as he is sometimes pictured... communism in the ideal state cannot be achieved until all human beings are enlightened... there is too much greed for power and materialism... more for me syndrome... many have far to much and many have nothing at all... my favourite folk are the bushmen of the kalahari desert... of course their culture would now be totally destroyed but once upon a time it was perhaps life in it's purest form.. caring and sharing and communal living. .none of this me me me me look at me syndrome, what's in it for me.. .with greed and power being the driving force instead of thinking for a group it's now think of your own skin at all costs bugger the rest.. .where's the enlightenment in that?.. and certainly no compassion!!!!!!! .merle
Chris, > What does it mean to say "the best economic system is the free market system > which cannot exist"? It *is* puzzling. But I think it contains the SAME germ of truth as exists also in the famous statement about "Ideal Communism", which I think Marx and other theorists wrote about: "Ideal Communism is a state that is approached, but never achieved." Appreciating the difference between real and ideal is what makes the two statements bear some sense. I don't agree with either of them. --Joe > Chris Austin-Lane <chris@...> wrote: > > Now is the time for the Churchill quote about democracy being the worst > form of government except for all the alternatives. > > What does it mean to say "the best economic system is the free market > system which cannot exist"?
