joe ..each to his own...
however remember the golden rule: aim higher and higher..
for doth not the eagle soar to heaven?
all us human's can ever manage to do is knock at heaven's door...
 so as we see
 so we are

an affective artwork is one that transcends
soars us to heaven's door...and opens that door

so we may see and come to witness beauty and truth

Merle,

Hard to separate and distill, and little motivation to do so, I'd say, speaking
for myself.

But probably all those things operate on me through the composition and content.

As usual, though, the thing I'd emphasize is "appreciation". Should we put
that with a capital-A?

Great photo!

What is an effective work of Art, one may ask? I'd say, a balanced composition
of Content and Intent.

Sometimes the Intent is unknown or spontaneous, and one is motivated by the
immanence of "The Decisive Moment", as Bresson spoke about it. The composition
might also be accidental, ...but usually is not... even if we don't know what
executes or plans it. ;-)

Still, when it comes to Art, I always feel on shaky ground when I (try to)
generalize. And that's fine with me. ;-)
