It was to save all beings.  Whether they like it or not.

Not that the Buddha had an Agenda in Mind, no; perish the thought.

It's just the way things go, at a certain point.

He came down from the Mountain, and the rest is History, Geography, and etc. 
(add your favorite Addendum here).

He woke up, and had to take a hike.  Don't we all?
