Rosy,

There is no such thing as a 'Zen chaplain'. There are zen teachers, and some
of these are Buddhists and do us a variety of titles. In Japanese Zen Buddhism
the title of a teacher is 'roshi'.

In order to become a teacher in the case of Japanese Zen Buddhism you must
receive 'permission to teach' (called 'inca' in Japanese) from a teacher who
himself/herself has received 'inca' from their teacher.

There are a lot of people to claim to be zen teachers who have not received
'inca' and just go out and teach on their own - much like self-ordained
Christian ministers.

...Bill!
