I have read several of his books. Struck me as the sort of man I aspire to be.
I recall one story that has glancing relevance to the current forum topics - he was telling some friend of his about a practice he had of closing his eyes when the attractive young women made obeisance (with potentially revealing clothes on) to him at the beginning or end of dokusan. At the time he was like 70 or something, and the friend was a bit incredulous- "Surely you don't need to worry about that now!?!" I can't recall his reply exactly, but it was along the lines of yes, and you can't be too careful. --Chris Thanks, --Chris 301-270-6524 On Feb 20, 2013 10:01 AM, "Joe" <[email protected]> wrote: > > > Chris, > > You might have liked Aitken Roshi (1917-2010). > > His writings are available. > > See a photo of him at a demonstration or protest he organized in Hawai'i > not long ago, as one of the activities of the Buddhist Peace Fellowship > (They demonstrated every Tuesday in front of the Capitol Building in > Honolulu.
