It's all because of the Three Poisons, rising endlessly:
Ignorance,
Hatred, and
Greed
(some add a Fourth: Attachment)
Even once- or multiply-awakened people are beset by these, and must
unremittingly continue to practice.
But we are reminded that there are no "Enlightened PEOPLE": there are only
"Enlightened ACTS". Hence, yes, we practice, and we continue to practice.
