Merle, Amazing tree! Thank you.
Many of the round sitting-cushions at Zen centers are stuffed with Kapok fiber. I believe the white fluffy kapok fiber is cushioning for the seeds of the tree in a seed pod, like the fiber of cotton in a cotton plant seed pod. Kapok fiber is good, because it does not "mat-down" too quickly in a cushion. To get it to fluff up again, it is easy to heat the (black) cushion outdoors in the sun ...especially in Arizona! The fiber develops more loft when it is very dry, and heated for a while. It's also easy to add more kapok to a cushion if it starts to go flat. When you stuff them, do it outdoors, and wear a simple respirator mask, and goggles: the fibers get loose and fill the air as you work. I'll look for some Kapok wood! Never saw any, yet. --Joe PS Besides Kapok fiber, the other most common fill material for sitting cushions is Buckwheat hulls. I like both types of cushions, but in the last 20 years have switched to buckwheat hulls, and I stuff my own pre-sewn shells with it. The hulls cost about $4 US per pound, in bulk. PPS Did you wave a knife like Hogan did in that first movie? I hear that that line "haunts" him wherever he goes. People accost him outside his hotel, and shout, "THAT'S not a KNIFE!" That cracks me up, but he must be sick of it. > Merle Lester <merlewiitpom@...> wrote: > > makes good sticks...i had one in 1978... > > before that i use to be apt at waving the knife... > > very zen tree... when applied correctly > http://www.art-and-archaeology.com/seasia/nature/nature06.html ------------------------------------ Current Book Discussion: any Zen book that you recently have read or are reading!
