It's called irony.  I use that a lot.

My last 2 paragraphs in the reply to Edgar below was irony.  It was suggesting 
that anything you say is okay as long as you put a smiley face on it - which as 
you've pointed out (and I demonstrated in the post) is not true.

Jeez!  You guys have to LIGHTEN UP!

...and that's not irony (although it could be kind of a pun - like it could 
mean both 'lighten up' as in 'chill out', and it could mean 'lighten up' as in 
'become enlightened'.

Get it?  Okay?

I can't promise you I'll dial back on the irony because I really, really like 
it.  All I can offer is if I write something that is offensive to you or seems 
odd ask about it and I will reply completely straightly - without irony or any 
jokes (well, maybe a pun or two).  :>)
