Dear zen members,

Sorry to bother you with my post in other forums. But if you have time
you can read and comment whether I am right or wrong in my
conclusions.

Dear Sri.Bharath,

Quote
Cannot easily explain what kind of a person my dad was. Be it he being
religious in doing daily pooja/abisegam to SriChakra and other
yentras/idols for years, be it the ardency he shown towards lord
Ayyapan for 35+ yrs being a Guruswami visiting Sabarimala every year,
be it he doing annadhana every year for 45 days being a founding
trustee of that trust, be it he fulfilling the duties as the
breadwinner of a lower middle class family with many sisters, be it he
actively being full time part of a cancer care trust for more than a
decade after his voluntary retirement, be it his character of being
helpful to anyone and everyone around in the society without any
inhibition or expectations (Paropakari), be it the involvement and
faith in doing the Pitru Kriyas every year, be it he fulfilling his
duties to the offsprings, be it he being a best dad, husband, son,
brother, relative, neighbor, social being. (Trust me, am not
exaggerating because he is my dad, anyone who knows him will vouch for
all of the above)
He was diagnosed with stage 3 oesophagus (food pipe) cancer in early
2012 and we lost a yearlong battle 3 months back (when he was just
62). He trusted that Ayyapan will save him till the last week of his
death. Trusted 100%. Ayyapan gave him a damn.

Apart from my first mail to you, do you want me to give a constructive
help or you want me to have words of solace by blaming on karma.

I am spending my office time to find all about food pipe cancer.

Now my simple question is apart from the above, how much do you really
know about your father as close as possible?

My father died at the age of 72 due to cardiac arrest. He could have
been made alive if timely help reached him, and also if house women
were trained to handle such emergencies. (This implies that all house
holders must undergo First Aid course)

I am not very close to my father, but my elder brother was, which
means my father even can show penis to my brother when he was
suffering to urinate. My father used to be very shy and hardly go to
any doctors for any illness. If fever or head ache, he will take
saridon or crosin, that is all he knows about medicine.

My brother and my father both did operation for removing fore skin of
the penis (Circumcision). My brother forces my father to go to
hospital.

My father died just after 3 days of marriage of my younger sister. He
loves sweets and those oily eatables.

Now my brother and sisters and most of them who are close to him taken
vow not to touch sweets and oily stuff. I will always eat moderately
from very young age and that continues.

Now my brother and his wife had undergone First aid course. My brother
actually arranged First Aid course for his entire building contains 10
flats. Since I am a sailor I have long back done advanced master
Medicare.

These are lessons one learns when they come across some catastrophe.

Since I am a sailor I know how new regulations are coming into
practice. When Titanic sunk in 1912, the world shipping Industry was
shaken. After that they sat and drafted over a period of years evolved
a New regulation or New convention called Safety of Life at sea
(SOLAS)

(The sinking of the Titanic on 14 April 1912 after colliding with an
iceberg was the catalyst for the adoption in 1914 of the first
International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS). More
than 1,500 passengers and crew died and the disaster raised so many
questions about the safety standards in force that the United Kingdom
Government proposed holding a conference to develop international
regulations. The Conference, which was attended by representatives of
13 countries, introduced new international requirements dealing with
safety of navigation for all merchant ships; the provision of
watertight and fire-resistant bulkheads; life-saving appliances; and
fire prevention and fire fighting appliances on passenger ships)

If that time people thought it is fate and Karma, we would not have
ships which are built today with high safety standards preventing many
numbers of losses of life.

Another incident - Herald of Free Enterprise was a roll-on roll-off
(RORO) ferry which capsized moments after leaving the Belgian port of
Zeebrugge on the night of 6 March 1987, killing 193 passengers and
crew. - The immediate cause of the sinking was found to be negligence
by the assistant boatswain, asleep in his cabin when he should have
been closing the bow-door.

This accident resulted in bringing International Safety Management
Code (ISM Code) so as to make accountable all crew who are working on
board by providing a system of working.

See what had happened after ISM code came in. - Protection and
indemnity (P&I), and hull insurer, The Swedish Club reported that a
study it conducted showed direct evidence that ships complying with
the International Safety Management code (ISM) have made significant
fewer claims than non-ISM vessels.

The analysis, which examined hull and P&I claims over a four-year
period ending June 30, 1999, revealed that claims levels have fallen
by about 30 percent

The Club said the major relative fall in claims occurred in the final
two years of the study period. It stressed that it has taken great
care to ensure that the analysis took full account of key variables.

The Club's claims study involved 592 hull and 426 P&I vessels,
together with 1,218 hull and 1,035 P&I claims.

This story continues. Now people don’t wait for accidents to draft
regulations, but they anticipate dangers well before and take all
measures. That doesn’t mean they are successful 100%, but they are
successful 90% which means when 100 to die, now only 10 dies. Is it
not a great achievement? It means you have made smiles in 90 person’s
lives (just for example).

Please go through 6 sigma quality system. They try to achieve 99.999% quality.

Many companies adopting this find their profit increased in multifold.

Now you tell me how much you know your father.

You mentioned that he was diagnosed with stage 3 oesophagus (food
pipe) cancer in early 2012.

Why did you wait until stage 3? Why not at stage 1 or why not
periodical medical checkup was not started when he was just 35?

1. The awareness of doing periodical checkup was not there in your
father, which you need to learn

2. Doing all those rituals and poojas indicates food was not taken at
regular period of interval. Also indicates those poojas/rituals
involves various food which contains lot of oil and other which
naturally weakens the health. Also indicates consumption of fresh
fruits and vegetables not a practice.

3. He was a Gurusamy, goes to Sabarimala every year. – This means he
for most of the time was without slippers on his foot, walking on the
road, where uneducated laymen make so unhygienic, and can cause or
bring any disease. He also would not have worn upper garment while he
is going to the temple or right in the queue to have darshan which
means, his sweat bare body will touch such similar sweat bare bodies,
can contaminate any disease.

4. On his pilgrimage he may have to eat outside, which may involve any
unhygienic hotel preparations. Also at Sabarimala, to take shower or
bath, in such dirty river can bring any disease. Also those common
toilets which were so shabby in that Pambai, can give any kind of
disease. ( I have been to Sabarimala once, hence I know the conditions
there)

5. He seems mostly outside, which means he is exposed to various kinds
of smoke. He could have been a passive smoker, which is very
unavoidable at many times.

6. He also served in cancer care trust helping poor cancer patients,
which indicates there is a possibility of contracting such disease if
one is careless.

He may be a best dad, husband, son, brother, relative, neighbor,
social being, but paid little attention on hygiene and health. You as
son not done your duty properly, to warn your father not to perform
those acts, which is harm to his health.

Please note a child may not know the nature of fire, but the fire will
not see that the child is innocent of its nature, so when child
touches the fire, fire will burn the child.

For fire there is nothing like one is innocent or ignorant or one is
wise and intelligent, it will burn whatever comes on its way.

Your father and you may not be aware of how a disease can spread, but
that does not mean, the contagious virus will not catch you if you
touch him or come across.

Please note my uncle who was a Marine Engineer, died due to fire on
board. He was 47, unmarried.

Since my grandfather died at very young age (40) ( Not died, but he
was in Samadhi), my uncle who was eldest son took the responsibilities
of looking after the siblings.

My uncle was also very religious person doing daily poojas, tarpanas,
divisams etc. regularly. He used to go to Ragavendra Math every year.
He also goes to kanchi and sees any Sankaracharya available every
year regularly. He helps all. He only made me join merchant navy.
Unmarried sacrificed entire life for his siblings.

But all these are not known to fire. He got 3rd degree burn, only his
face escaped (because he tured other side) He was hospitalized for 5
days. The death was not immediate (even that grace was also not shown
by god).

Despite the warning given by the senior Engineers, without taking
adequate precautions, and plan, he opened boiler valve, which back
fired.

Now the fire has not seen his virtues done, it only seen his mistake.
Had he taken precautions he would have been alive today. (This is not
fate, mere carelessness, ego, thinking I know everything).

Please note until today, even now, some ships may be opening Boiler
valves, but it does not back fire, why, because they plan, take
adequate precautions. If you pay adequate attention in whatever you
do, they also work smoothly.

Just by praying god, you cannot omit your responsibilities of paying
adequate attention to the job you do right at this moment.

Be fully attentive to this moment, that is the only god, or the
consciousness or the awareness in you is god. If are fully alert and
aware every moment of your life, you will live mostly with negligible
problems.

This post took me three hours in office. You are at liberty to take or
leave. Any members in this forum can curse me for this advice. If
List moderators think I am not right, they can remove me.

Best wishes
Suresh
