I've heard there are three types of bodhisattvas: shepherd-like, boatman-like, and king-like. The shepherd herds everyone towards enlightenment by going last, the boatman travels together with everyone, and the king leads all into enlightenment. Although three types are spoken of, only one actually exists... the king-like bodhisattva.
Now this presented a bit of a problem for me, as it just didn't seem sound to wait until I was fully enlightened to try to exercise great compassion... or even teeny- weenie compassion. So I have come to think of it as a bucket line. I give what measure I have, and receive what measure is passed on to me, on down from the head of the line, the great bodhisattvas mahasattvas. There is this as well: what is it to express the full measure of compassion in this dot of me, breath flowing in, out, nothing added? Blessings, Ryunen ------------------------ Yahoo!
