Dear Al, If expecting to be greeted as the great Zen hope was a crime this list would be a note passed between cells in a prison. I went to a Zen Center expecting to be hailed as the next Buddha. Most of us did. Most of us figured out how foolish we looked too. Some of us stayed when we learned the truth. That this great something we discovered all by ourself was nothing new...and we still had a lot to learn. I do not mind when a new person comes on the list, expecting to find fools who know nothing of the great things that the latest Zen hope knows. It is not even suprising to me that it is a shock for them to realize we have seen it before, and will see it again. The thing is ..we have all been there, or will be there in our turn. To someone who has never been on a list or has not been on long, these things are new. It always comes as a shock to a kid when they realize their parents had to have um *cough* sex. It is a function of newness, and if they just hang around for a while they will see it happen almost daily on a list like this...and they too will gain a little perspective. Just like we did.
