Fudo said once that the concept of live-long commitement to a
monastery is a western concept.
So, in Japan, monastic training is always temporary ?
I am also curious about the historic origins of the Soto
Order. If the Soto School is a medieval institution, with ties with
the local aristocracy, when did it become a national institution?
And are these temples actually owned by their head priests ? Could,
for instance, the priest of the temple A sell the temple to a third
person ?

      Regards,

      Francisco.
