Recently I became very interested in the Hsin Hsin Ming, or Faith Mind sutra, by third Ch'an Patriarch Chien-chih Seng-ts'an. This is an outstanding sutra, well worth reverent study. A number of translations are available, both in print and electronically. In my internet research, I came across four online translations of note: Pajin, Suzuki, Blyth and Luk. Luk�s translation provides interesting variation to the others. Over the next several weeks, I plan to submit one "verse" per posting with all four translations for comparison. I have choosen to slightly modify punctuation of some verses as deemed appropriate for purposes of clarity in comparision. No wording has been changed. To aid in the study of these verses, I may ocassionally include questions, rather than commentary.
