Ego is an error in thinking. It doesn't mean that,
once the error gets corrected (i.e. one experiences
enlightenment), that the thinking gets abolished. It
is not ego that's the cause of thinking, it's the
other way around -- erroneous thinking produces the
illusion of an ego.

So, when this illusion gets dispelled, the cause of it
does not get dispelled.

The problem is that most people attempt to envisage
the absence of self by utilizing the way of thinking
that entails the self. Thus, their endeavor is doomed
to failure.
