Ah you are mistaken, I did own a dog, and lived in the woods.

There was a family of skunks in the neighborhood. The dog never learned
to leave them alone.

The skunks were cute though, especially when they were young. They used
to come and eat off the compost pile. There was one we named Pedro
because he would not leave no matter how close you came if there had
been Mexican food served recently. I never managed to get sprayed. Seems
as if one only need to worry about getting sprayed if one backs a skunk
into a corner.

By the way, since we had no indoor plumbing and I went outside for years
to pee and the skunks were always about at night, so you might say I
have been in several pissing contests with skunks.

Any way, I am familiar with both the scent of skunks, and the scents
from those on this list.....and I have a pretty good idea about which
smells worse most of the time....and besides.....the skunks are cuter
and they manufacture a lot less excrement.

Be Well
