I dunno. My habit is far from extreme. Those I have encountered also are far from extreme. Tibet has all sorts of stages of red light, and white lights, what have you, I suspect based on true experience, why would they lie? I don't practice to "get" to these lights. I practice because disillusionment leads me to more practice. > 1) ji hokkai: realm of phenomena > 2) ri hokkai: view of the dharma realm as the perception of all things > 3) riji muge: non-obstruction between principle and phenomena > 4) jiji muge: non-obstruction between individual phenomena Thanks for the input, I appreciate it and any other that you have. I am working on moving down the list. If I were to guess, reduction of the "extra" through practice moves one increasingly towards original face... continued practice might even yield 5), 6) and 7). Death might yeild Infinity). But IMHO I guess, that like Zeno's arrow, one's cognition never reaches suchness because suchness underlies cognition. There is no epistemology that can reach ontology (given arguments like Godel's theorem, etc.) -- and ontology is of course not reachable through epistemology. But who knows? These ideas (and fancy words I like to trot out) are also flimsy constructions. Why is it important? The practice is the direction of travel, and the tools along the road. If someone claims to be returning from the road up ahead -- describing the scenery ahead and how "Bad" I have it here, it is not of interest to me and will likely make me think they're not sure they can read their compass, and are just lookin' for someone to confirm that they themselves are headed the right direction (by trying to squeeze discontent out of me). Either hand me a tool, remove a worthless one, or get out of the way! There was times when I needed a postcard from Fiji to know that Fiji exists. Now I'm just paddling South, if you say "that is where Fiji is," then sure I'll tell you "I'm going to your 'Fiji'". Now that I see the path moree clearly -- I have much less motivation to predict where it leads. (grumbling from the row pit, all them damn navigators should get down here and help with the paddlin') ------------------------ Yahoo!
