Different practitioners understand the doctrine of the
Middle Way differently. This doctrine, coupled with
Dependent Origination, Emptiness and Two Truths, is
the pinnacle of the Buddha's teaching. At the same
time, it is the most recondite, sore spot on the body
of the Buddhist doctrine.

You have two choices here:

a.) Follow Fudo's instructions (i.e. 'just do it')
b.) Strive to master the deep meaning of the Buddha's
teaching

Again, what will work for you depends on your overall
makeup, or, shall we say, on your spiritual
temperament (which some of us hold to be determined by
your karmic affinities, but let's not go into
technicalities here).

In the end, all roads lead to Rome. The seemingly
sub-intellectual approach that some sects advocate is
just an alternative way of honing one's intelectual
acumen. Finally, it is impossible to attain one's full
potential without exercising one's faculties.

Alex
