>> Maybe This Is Why In Soto Practice The Vows Are Repeated Several Times
>> A Day..... Often In Reality They Are Broken Almost As Soon As They Are
>> Uttered, And Need To Be Retaken With Regularity.

the vows are DESIGNED to be broken as soon as they are uttered.
because they are impossible vows in the first place.

sentient beings are numberless... i vow to save them.
desires are inexhaustible... i vow to extinguish them.
dharmas are boundless.... i vow to master them.
the buddha way is unattainable... i vow to attain it.

it kinds sucks that they are impossible, really, but whatcha gonna do?

- elk (pretty bad at keeping vows)
