Hi Jill and welcome to the group. I'd say a basic difference is that Zen seems to be less 'colourful' than Tibetan Buddhism and somewhat less rarified and more accessible. If you like, I would say it's simpler. In Zen practice we don't do visualisations or some of the other meditative practices that Vajrayana does, the emphasis is on the different aspects of zazen - 'just sitting' (shikantaza), breathing and posture and/or koan practice.
