The contradiciton is in the fact that science is based on the tacit
assumption that the observable universe is a fluke. In other words,
all is random chance, with some events having certain above zero level
of probability of occurring.

Dependent origination, the way the Buddha taught it, is diametrically
opposed to the scientific teaching. The Buddha taught that there is no
such thing as a fluke. Everything happens for a good reason. Any event
that ever occurs must produce a result, and that result in turn must
produce its own result, and so on, ad infinitum. There is no way that
something could occur and not bring forth a result. So the probability
in the Buddhist world is always 100%, while in the scientific world
it's always hovering dangerously close to 0%.
