'Ian asked the right question....'.

Spider then proceeded to embark on a long tirade of spurious detail in order to convince us of his point of view. (i.e. that his idiosyncratic view was in fact a true way of seeing things).

My own (idiosyncratic) view is that none of us here believe that 'that enlightenment is a thoughtless state in which all things which are human must be abandoned'; it is more a question of us using practice to penetrate the fog of our small minds attempts at understanding in order to reach a more intuitive level of understanding hidden beneath the surface. It is here where we find our deeper selves and our most innovative ideas: somewhere inside where we process data in a non-linguistic form. Our surface minds need training  in order to maintain the level of calm sincerity that allows us to access our intuitive side.

'Wooden plank zen' would seem to be non-existent, merely a construct of someone to belittle another's strivings; a way for it's creator to generate an adrenalin buzz and launch a pointless attack.
