I saw a Zatoichi film a few months ago. A wonderful fantasy.   A truly delightful character.  Very bloody, but the blood was really poor animation so it wasn't gruesome, well it wasn't realistic anyway, and it was richly comical, split a gut! One I won't forget. I'm amazed to hear there are 26. This is one of the very rare times I regret not having tv.

Also saw Why Did the Bhodidharma leave for the East, someone brought up recently.  I will agree it was slow, but it was hardly boring, on the contrary I would describe it as gut-wrenching. Deep film.  Takes place in a monastary in Korea. It's an artful, thoughtful, intimate, emotionally difficult but very beautiful.  Even though the scenario is contrived in relation to our daily life, it has a powerful realism. Definitely recommend it.

While we're at it: Travellers and Magicians is a real beauty, very warm and human.
