I stand by my answer as a Zen solution, although given the new facts (the
alleged maltreatment of the lizards) I would probably have photographed the
abuse with my camera phone, asked the guy to stop the torture and
contacted the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
With regard to the tollbooth problem, I wouldn't have been 'driving
aimlessly' anyway as petrol is too expensive (both to the consumer and to the
planet) to be wasted in this way. B could work without the added attitude of
revenge and D could be ok for me too. I guess the real answer to both questions
is that there is no one solution to these problems, one merely tries to maintain
a state of mind that responds openly and justly at the time and doesn't
destroy one's peace of mind later.
