We based the load balancing in pen, pound and the linux kernel features for
routing and traffic control.

We use pound as a balancing core for http and https. Zen is as good in
performance as pound is. Pound performance depends on the hardware system.
Multicore systems provide very good performance with pound, even more than
other open source solutions that has the same features.

I don't think that pound is slow. It is slow if you don't use the right
hardware, and the other solutions that has better performance, haven't got
all the features we need for zen.
