It currently seems that pydot is the problem, and one potential solution is to use the versions of graphviz and pyparsing that were developed with it (pydot hasn't been updated in two years).

I don't remember the versions of graphviz that CentOS installed on the dev box, but they might have been older (and that might explain why it worked on that box).

However, this is further complicated by seemingly inconsistent results: Eric mentioned today on IRC that he saw it work initially and then it stopped working -- all with recent versions of graphviz and pyparsing.
