Today we don't have a great solution for this situation. Ideally we
would have an agent on the box doing all the monitoring and then
sending information back to the zenoss server. Today we run in an
"agent-less" mode which is nice because that you don't need to
install software on the monitored server. One solution to your
problem would be to provide a tunnel of some sort from zenoss to the
monitored boxes. I have used openvpn to tunnel between a remote box
and zenoss.

Hi,
I am looking for a way to monitor servers which are not easily
accessible. Where "not easily accessible" includes:
o natted behind a firewall
o firewall external IP sometimes natted behind the ISP
o firewall external IP dynamically assigned in some instances
Furthermore, I need to create reports from these metrics, so all
this has to go to a central store/instance of my monitoring tool.

instead of being polled. This should include performance metrics
as well as events.
Now, I know I can send events via XML-RPC, but can I also send
performance data?
I could potentially wrap up SNMP walks from the firewall for all
hosts on internal networks, post it to the ZenOSS box and unwrap
it there, but I'd need to know how to put this information into
ZenOSS.
Any pointers or advice?
