I am getting emails with the VM appliance and I did wonder how it was working out where to send them to. A little investigation showed that the MTA on the appliance was using the internal DNS MX records to find out where to send mail to. So, if you have the appliance configured to use an internal DNS make sure you have MX records for your mailserver(s). I also have configured users and made them administrators for the monitored devices.
